Harrington launches The K Club's Irish PGA Pro-Am
Pádraig Harrington launched The K Club's €20,000 Irish PGA Pro-Am — sponsored by Cairn PLC, Crystal Air, MCM Engineering Inc, Newbridge Silverware, The Irish Golfer Magazine and TLC Nursing Homes — but it remains to be seen if he will tee it up from May 5-6.
The 36-hole event will be played over the Ryder Cup and Smurfit courses at the Straffan resort with teams of three amateurs costing €1,350 for golf, a barbecue and gala dinner.
A prize pot of €20,000 is up for grabs for the leading Irish golf Professionals while the amateurs can win some stunning prizes including canteens of cutlery for the winning team, courtesy of Irish lifestyle company, Newbridge Silverware.
Over 120 amateur golfers people will play in the tournament alongside some of Ireland’s leading Irish PGA professionals.
“The owner of The K Club, Dr. Michael Smurfit, has been one of the most ardent and loyal supporters of the PGA in Ireland and his support and the support of all the team at The K Club is essential for the continual growth of golf in this country," said Harrington, who is seeking a spot iin the clashing Wells Fargo Championship that weekend.
"The K Club has two of Europe’s most stunning courses, it’s always a pleasure to play here.”
The first day of action will take place on the Smurfit Course, while the spectacular Ryder Cup Course will play host to the event on the second day. Teams cost €1,350 and the price includes golf on both courses, food on arrival each day, a BBQ on the first evening and a gala dinner on the last day.

PGA in Ireland Regional Manager, Michael McCumiskey added: “Ever since it opened in 1991 The K Club has proven to be a long-standing supporter of the PGA, going back to staging Irish Championships and in more recent times quality Pro-Ams on the Ryder Cup Course.
"From the perspective of our professionals, a chance to visit and play there is never to be missed. This will no doubt be reflected in the entries from our members and the amateurs who will play in the Pro-Am on 5th and 6th May, with the professionals taking a particular interest in competing for the generous prize-fund of €20,000.”
