Seamus Power looks like he means business in Maryland

Seamus Power is just three shots behind leaders Andrew Landry and JJ Spaun after he opened with an immaculate, four-under 66 in the PGA Tour’s Quicken Loans National.

The West Waterford man birdied the 10th, 14th and 18th go out in a flawless 32 before following eight pars with a birdie two from eight feet at the ninth.

He's tied for seventh with Abraham Ancer, Beau Hossler, Ryan Armour and Joel Dahmen at TPC Potomac at Avenel Farm and given his recent form, he looks in the mood to produce a result that could mark his season.

He was just three shots behind Landry and Spaun, who fired a bogey-free 63s to lead by a shot in the clubhouse from Billy Horschel and Andrew Putnam on seven-under.

Tiger Woods' made two birdies in his last five holes to post a level par 70 but despite being 95th for strokes-gained, he refused to blame his switch to a TaylorMade putter.

"I rolled it well today,  I really did," Woods said before heading for the putting green. "I misread a couple on the back nine but overall I hit a lot of good putts. It was nice to feel that and nice to feel the putter swing again."
