Freeman wins Titleist Footjoy Leinster U16 Close
Naas' Eoin Freeman blasted an eagle and three birdies in a one-over 71 to win the Titleist Footjoy Ireland sponsored Leinster Boys Under 16 Close Championship at Ashbourne.
His level par homeward nine was enough to edge out Mullingar's Lucas Kane and Portmarnock's Michael Fitzgibbon on a countback.
Fitzgibbon had an albatross two at the 450-yard fourth in his 71 after starting with three bogeys while the gutsiest round of the day must be Conor Murphy's 85.
The Dundalk talent had a nightmare start which included an 11 at the sixth but didn't throw in the towel and played his last seven holes in an immaculate four-under as he mixed two pars with birdies at the 13th, 14th, 16th and 17th.
