Sweet revenge for Irish U16s in England

A mixed Irish Under 16 team claimed a hard-fought 16.5-13.5 victory hosts England at Hunstanton and sweet revenge for last year’s defeat at Limerick.

Leading 10.5-7.5 after Saturday's play, the teams shared the singles 6-6, giving Ireland a three-point victory overall.

Ireland led 4-2 after the opening foursomes thanks to wins for Joshua Hill and Joseph Byrne, Liam Abom and Morgan O’Sullivan, Thomas Higgins and Luke Cunningham and Beth Coulter and Katie Poots.

In the opening singles, Ireland again won the session (6.5-5.5) with wins for Hill, Abom, Higgins, Corrina Griffin, Emma Fleming and Coulter and a halved match for Emily Murray.

The final day proved challenging but wins for Byrne, Cunningham, Abom, Higgins and Murray and halved matches for Coulter and Anna Dawson were enough for give Ireland victory.
