Dawson debuts with victory at Portmarnock Links
Robin Dawson made a successful first appearance as the touring professional for the host course when he carded a three-under 68 to top the 102-strong field and win the TaylorMade Winter Series outing at Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links.
The Challenge Tour professional went out in two-under when he recovered from a bogey at the first with birdies at the second, third and seventh.
He then came home in one-under by following a bogey at the 12th with birdies at the 14th and 16th to win the nett by three strokes from one-handicapper Joseph Hanney from The Island and Royal Dublin professional Niall Kearney.
Hanney birdied the fourth to turn in one-under before finishing with two bogeys for his nett 71 while Kearney birdied the seventh in a one-under front nine before finishing with two bogeys.
Kearney birdied the seventh to turn in one-under, but after starting back with a birdie at the 10th, he bogeyed the 13th and 18th.
Rathfarnham professional Eric Byrne won the gross with a two-under 69 as he mixed birdies at the second, sixth, 10th and 14th with bogeys at the fourth and 13th
He finished three shots ahead of Laytown and Bettystown's Cian Geraghty, who had four birdies in his 71 , and Alps Tour professional Conor O'Rourke from Naas, who was three-under at the turn but could not keep it going on the back nine
