Dubliner David Carey followed his stunning 61 with a four-under 68 to take a two-stroke lead into the final round of the First Stage of the European Tour Qualifying School at Bogogno Golf Resort in Italy.
He leads on 21-under par from Canada's Jimmy Jones with Naas' Conor O'Rourke tied ninth on 11-under as they bid to make the top 19 and ties who qualify for next month's Second Stage.
Jonathan Yates and Declan Loftus missed the 54 hole cut as they were not within 10 shots of the final qualifying place through three rounds.
Royal Dublin's Niall Kearney (70) and Whitehead's John-Ross Galbraith (71) are tied for fifth place on six-under, just four shots off the lead in the race to make the top 19 and tied at Frilford Heath.
Paul McBride is three shots outside the top 19 after a 74 with Dermot McElroy’s 73 leaving him a shot further back while Cork’s John Hickey missed the cut
At the First Stage of the Korn Ferry Tour Qualifying Tournament, Stephen Grant is just three shots outside the top 21 who progress after a 69 at Breakers Rees Jones in West Palm Beach but Ruaidhri McGee's 73 at Grasslands left him 10 shots outside the top 23 there with a round to go.
