Francis Chaney and Charlie Denvir scooped the top prizes in the second TaylorMade Winter Series outing of the season at Portmarnock Hotel and Golf Links.

Following last week's appalling weather, when just four players managed to post a score, a 78-strong field enjoyed the links under blue skies in a stiff, southerly breeze.

Chaney, a five handicapper from nearby St Anne's, posted an excellent 67 to win the nett by a whopping six strokes from Elm Park's Matthew O'Brien (5) and Galway's Gavan Keogh (4).

Elm Park star Denvir, who took eventual champion Ronan Mullarney to the 18th in the semi-finals of the AIG Irish Close at Ballybunion, won the best gross with a two-over 73.

He edged out Naas professional Gavin Lunny by a shot and AJ McCabe by two.

Out in two-over-par, Denvir came home in level par with a birdie at the 14th and a bogey at the 17th while Lunny showed his pupils he can still play a bit as he came home in level par for his 74.

McCabe made the prizes for the second week running but after going out in one-over par, he was disappointed to bogey the 10th, 16th and 18th with wedge in hand as he took the third gross with a 75.
