Downes leads Leinster Boys as aces are high at Waterford

Royal Dublin’s Sean Downes opened with a to 68 to lead the Leinster Boys Amateur Open at Waterford.

He made an eagle and five birdies in his, three-under round to lead by one stroke from Roscommon’s Simon Walker and Dundalk’s Josh Mackin, who had a hole in one at the 17-yard seventh.

Seapoint’s Dylan Keating, who won Regional Qualifying for The Open at Baltray recently, shot 70 to share fourth place with Woodbrook’s Aidan Quigley, Dun Laoghaire’s Luka Keyes and Killeen’s Shane Irwin.

There was also a hole in one for Alex Byrne on the 120-yard 17th as he opened with a 72.
