Byrne wins Irish U16 Boys by one stroke
Baltinglass' Joseph Byrne had enough with a par-five at the 18th to win the Irish U16 Boys Championship by one stroke at Donabate.
Tied for the overnight lead with Roscommon's Thomas Higgins on three-under-par, it all came down to the 433m finishing hole.
Higgins and England's Frank Kennedy had birdied the 17th to tie with playing partner Byrne on level par. But they both dropped a shot at the last and Byrne made par to add a three-over 74 to rounds of 71 and 68 to win the title on level par.
Kennedy took the U15 Trophy after his round of 72 and tied for second with Higgins, who shot a 75.
Ulster U16 champion Morgan O'Sullivan from Ballyneety tied for fourth on five-over with Galgorm Castle's Joshua Hill, who was selected for the Jacques Léglise Trophy earlier in the week.
