Donabate’s Pat Doran came from three shots off the lead to win the Irish Senior Women’s Open by two strokes at Carlow.

She trailed The Island’s Gertie McMullen heading into the final round but as the two-time champion closed with a five-over 80, Doran posted a level par 75 to finish on six-over 231.

McMullen, who was bidding to add to her wins of 2013 and 2016, had to settle for a share of second with Canada’s Judith Kyrinis on 233.

The best round of the day came from Malahide’s Alison Taylor, who carded an eagle, four birdies and just one bogey in a brilliant, five-under 70 to finish fourth on 235.

Royal County Down’s Kate Evans and defending champion Beatriz Arenas from Guatemala finished tied n 242 in the Over 60s category, albeit it, nine strokes behind the champion.
