England completed a memorable double when added the Senior Men’s Home Internationals to their victory in the European Senior Team Championships.

They tied 4.5-4.5 on the last day with defending champions Scotland when Rupert Kellock beat Robert Smith by one hole in the final singles, pipping Ireland, who beat Wales 5.5-2.5 at Alnmouth in Northumberland.

Ireland were left to rue their opening day defeat to the eventual champions, who won with two and a half match points to Ireland’s two. Scotland finished third with one-and-a-half with a pointless Wales fourth.

The Scots led 2.5–0.5 after the foursomes but they knew they also needed a big win in the singles and came up short.

Ireland shared the foursome with Wales before winning three and halving two of the six singles.
