Lauren Walsh leads by two in Greensboro

Wake Forest’s Lauren Walsh made five birdies in a one-under 71 to take a two-stroke lead into the second round of the Grandover Resort Women’s Griffith Amateur in Greensboro.

The Castlewarden talent, now ranked 136th in the world, birdied the sixth, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th and 18th on the East Course at the Grandover Resort to lead by two shots from Virginia Tech’s Becca DiNunzio (73).

Scores

Nicole Adam (UNC Chapel Hil), Isabel Amezcua (NC State), Sarah-Eve Rheaume (Furman) and Jodee Tindal (College of Charleston) shot 74 to trail Walsh by three shots in the North Carolina event.

After finishing eighth in the ISPS Handa World Invitational Men | Women presented by Modest! Golf Management at Galfgorm Castle, Walsh racked up top 10 finishes in her first three starts for Wake Forest before making it four in six with a 10th place finish in the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate at Hilton Head in March.
