Charlesland Golf Club will close its doors forever on 31 December but the members still managed to do their bit for charity in 2020 despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.

Months of closure proved no impediment to the Co Wicklow club’s fund raising efforts and yesterday, 2020 captains Ann Lehane and Brian McNamara presented a cheque for €6,769 to HUGG.ie, a suicide postvention charity run entirely by a voluntary board and staff.

HUGG.ie provides information, email support and support groups, led by trained vounteers who have lost a loved one to suicide.

This gives everyone who connects with HUGG the reassurance that they understand their pain and loss. Through information and support, a new life of purpose and hope is possible for the bereaved.

Each suicide affects up to 135 people. That means up to 60,000 people each year may require some form of bereavement support in Ireland.

If you are a club officer for 2021 and looking for a worthy cause for your fundraising efforts, HUGG would be delighted to hear from you.

Please contact Fiona Tuomey at HUGG.ie, by email at info@hugg.ie or just call HUGG on 01 513 4048.
