Moran just four behind in Portugal despite late bogeys
Castle’s Robert Moran is just four shots off the lead at halfway in the Portuguese International Amateur Championship at Montado Hotel & Golf Resort.
The Dubliner made five birdies and a bogey to get to eight-under with two holes to play but while he bogeyed the 17th and 18th to add a 70 to his opening 68, he’s tied for 13th on six-under and well placed heading into the last two rounds.
Spain’s Alvaro Hernandez Cabezuela and Norway’s Herman Wibe Sekne carded six-under 66s to lead by a shot from Germany’s Luc Breuer on 10-under.
Waterford’s Eanna Griffin fell back to tied 28th on four-under after a 72 but Castleknock’s Paul Coughlan improved to tied 67th on two-over after a 70.
Lisburn’s Aaron Marshall shot 72 and Holywood’s Rory Williamson a 74 to leave them 96th on six-over.
Forrest Little’s Jack McDonnell is 101st on seven-over after a 78 with Michael Young also shooting 78 to finish on 11-over.
The top 40 and ties (three-under at halfway) will make the cut and qualify for Saturday’s final round.
