The days when your gut feeling and guesswork were the main barometers for judging excellence are long gone. It’s a data-driven world and there are ways your golf club can measure how well it is doing when it comes to COVID-19.

The safety and wellbeing of members and staff is of paramount importance and with new routines and practices in place to guide golf through the five-phase return to some semblance of normality, it’s important that clubs get their safety measures right

Dublin-based 1872 PERFORM has been using the golfing scoring system to help businesses accurately measure performance.

Golfers know that 72 is par for the course for the best in the business, a 65 a sensational effort, a 73 a decent round with some improvement required and an 82 a disappointment.

Using the 1872 PERFORM system, clubs will be able to quickly survey members and visitors and display a scorecard which captures the feedback from every visitor, updated daily.

With 18 quickfire questions, clubs can judge how well they are perceived to be doing for such things as the condition of the course, pace of play (a possible health hazard in the COVID-19 era) , and the “COVID Readiness of the Club.”

1872 PERFORM is an online survey app, developed from business management tools, which uses a validated longitudinal survey algorithm to parse and analyse data gathered from 18 questions and display the outcomes on a simple dashboard.

These scores can be tracked daily to validate the health and safety measures you have put in place, and to pinpoint potential hotspots before they arise. A score for each section of 24 or less, and a total score of 72 or less and you know at a glance that all is well.

“It’s a scoring system, based on golf, that I created as a management tool in 1999 when I was working with a pharmaceutical company, “ explains 1872 PERFORM’s Fergal Brehony. “We’ve been using this with Credit Unions to gauge how customers feel they have been working with the COVID challenge. We equally another survey mong staff on how they feel the business is managing.

'“With golf. we have created a little survey where after their game of golf, members get an email or a text to their phone and within two minutes, they can comment on 18 elements- six about the course. six about pace of play and six about COVID-19 safety and whether or not the club is adhering to the right protocols.

“Ultimately, the golf club will have a scoresheet at the end of the day. It’s instant feedback on social distancing, staff attitudes to COVID-19 safety and the overall golfing experience too.”
