Mount Juliet still waiting for Irish Open news
The European Tour said last month that it would clarify the immediate future of the Ryder Cup and events such as the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open by end of June.
But while there have been reports that the Ryder Cup could be postponed for 12 months, freeing up the last week in September for a possible Irish Open staging at Mount Juliet, the Co Kilkenny club has heard nothing from the European Tour to that effect.
Like their counterparts at Adare Manor, who are similarly in the dark about the 2026 Ryder Cup potentially moving to 2027 as part of the knock-on effect from a 2020 postponement, there has been no communication from Wentworth thus far.
Even behind closed doors, an Irish Open staging would depend on the lifting of travel restrictions which currently require people who arrive in Ireland from another country to self-isolate for 14 days.
As for the date, should the Ryder Cup date remain unavailable and the Alfred Dunhill Links, Scottish Open and BMW PGA go ahead in the first three weeks of October as planned, there could be early frost and little light from October 22-25.
