Rafferty and McLarnon headline star-studded Balbriggan Scratch Cup field

World No 17 and Walker Cup star Caolan Rafferty will headline a stellar field chasing €1,500 in prizes at the 36-hole Balbriggan Senior Scratch Cup on Sunday, July 19.

The reigning West of Ireland champion from Dundalk will be the hot favourite to lift the first big scratch cup of the season.

However, he will not have it all his own way.

Not only will Forrest Little’s Jack McDonnell be keen to put up a stern defence of the trophy after blasting a course record 64 en route to victory last year, the list of big name entries is growing.

Irish international and former Irish Close and Mullingar Scratch Trophy winner Tiarnan McLarnon has entered and so too have Castle’s Robert Moran and Balbriggan’s former South of Ireland and Irish Amateur Open winner Robbie Cannon.

While the handicap limit for the Senior Scratch Cup is 3 — the timesheet is filling fast — there will also be a Junior Scratch Cup for golfers with handicaps from 4-9.
