Action underway in Irish Scratch Series at Seapoint; timesheet here
The Flogas sponsored Irish Scratch Series got underway at 7.33 at Seapoint Golf Links with LPGA Tour star Leona Maguire set to hit the course at 9.56 am with Olivia Mehaffey, Stuart Grehan and Garrett Mann.
An 89-strong field has been assembled for what is hoped will be the first of 10 Irish Scratch Series events with the players competing today for a total prize fund of €1,100 with a first gross prize of €500.
Apart from Maguire and Grehan, professionals in action include Conor Purcell, Damian Mooney, Conor O’Rourke, Jonny Yates, Ronan Mullarney, Paul McBride, John Ross Galbraith and Dermot McElroy.
The amateur entry is extremely strong with Curtis Cup star Mehaffey joined by a host of top Irish players including Irish Women’s Close champion Annabel Wilson,
The event is the first for most since the COVID-19 lockdown in mid-March and many of the top young amateurs in the country are taking part with COVID-19 safety measures in place.
Golf Event Management company, GK Events and PR responded by organising a series of events which will give players the opportunity of competing at a very high level.
Maximum handicap allowed is 9 for ladies and 6 for men so the overall standard of the field is extremely high.
The event has been kindly sponsored by Flogas, who are loyal supporters of both professional and amateur golf in Ireland and play a key role in ensuring these events go ahead.
The Irish Scratch Series events will take place every Monday and the plan is to move the event to different golf clubs around the country over the coming weeks.
The second event will take place again at Seapoint on 6 July with the timesheet opening at 3 pm on Sunday 28 June.
Professionals will only be eligible to win the gross prizes.
