Faldo Series Ireland set for July 27 return at Glasson
The Faldo Series returns to Ireland following a delayed start to its 2020 campaign with the Ireland Championship set for Glasson Golf Club on July 27.
The best Irish junior golfers, boys and girls, will be matched up with one of Ireland’s top parkland courses to compete for a coveted place in the 24th Faldo Series Europe Grand Final at the Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club, Abu Dhabi in November.
Looking ahead to one of the first opportunities to return to competitive golf in Ireland, Glasson Golf Club is perfectly poised for yet another spectacle of golf as the next generation of talented golfers is tested at championship level.
The three-day Series event will be played on the Christy O’Connor Junior designed course, known for its dramatic backdrop in the heartlands of Ireland.
The Faldo Series presence in Ireland and Irish golf has been hugely optimistic in recent years, the latest in line will be rising Royal Dublin star, Max Kennedy, who will be looking to follow in the footsteps of four-time major champion, Rory McIlroy, following his recent Series successes.
Sir Nick Faldo, Founder of the Faldo Series, said: “It’s great for the Series to be back and especially excited to see competitive golf back Ireland. Given the circumstances we’ve experienced this year, the Series is proud to be able host events again and with our most competitive fields, it is very promising for the future of the game”
Lynn McCool, Director of Golf at Glasson Golf Club, is also excited to welcome the Series back in Ireland.
“We are delighted at Glasson Golf Club to be hosting the Ireland Boys Faldo Series in late July," she said. "The Christy O’Connor Jnr designed course will be a great challenge for all the age groups. I have for many years been involved in this event and it is such a great tournament with Ireland’s finest youths and juniors competing to make it to the Grand Final.
“It is exciting that the event is coming to Co Westmeath and will be good to stage within Irelands Hidden Heartlands. Sir Nick Faldo and his team are great to work with, I admire the time and investment Sir Nick has put in to driving our next generation of golfers. I look forward to welcoming his team to Glasson Golf Club.”
Entries for the Ireland Championship will close on the 6 July, and players must visit www.faldoseries.com to view further details of the event and to sign up.
The Faldo Series team have gone above and beyond to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all players and staff at each event will remain uncompromised upon their return.
Over recent weeks the Series team have been working closely with both the GUI and the ILGU to ensure each event on the updated schedule will closely align with the guidelines and social distancing measures in place under government regulations.
