Empordà's golf vision takes shape with remodelled clubhouse

The new clubhouse at Empordà Golf Club

Empordà Golf Club’s transformation into one of Europe’s premier 36-hole golf destinations continues to take shape with the reopening of the top Spanish venue’s clubhouse following a major renovation.

Embracing the new owners’ vision of offering members and guests an outstanding sporting, culinary and cultural experience, the building has undergone a complete refurbishment over the last six months, with its pro shop, golf reception and newly-rebranded restaurant Terraverda all being given a modern and contemporary new look.

Providing a warm welcome to all resort visitors, Empordà’s remodelled golf reception and pro shop have been redesigned to create a more modern, spacious and light-filled space.

Golfers can enjoy access to a wide selection of the game’s best brands in fashion, shoes, golf bags, golf clubs and accessories in the pro shop while they also have the chance to take advantage of a completely new dining experience at Terraverda.

Acclaimed local interior designer Sandra Tarruella and architect Adriana Porta have given the restaurant a fresh and vibrant feel while the menu has also being given a complete overhaul, with sports-orientated and healthy dishes during the day making way in the evening for an array of gastronomic specialities with local and seasonal products created by new head chef Vicenç Fajardo – one of the most prominent chefs in the Girona region.

Miguel Girbés, general manager at Empordà Golf Club, said: “The resort’s new owners have some very ambitious plans, and the opening of the clubhouse is the latest step in turning their dream into a reality.

“We are driven by the idea of offering an experience embracing sport, food and culture, the three best values that Spain has to offer, so that the resort becomes a place to meet and entertain and is ‘the heart of the Empordà’.

“The renovation and refurbishment of the interior is a perfect fit for the new modern image of Emporda, and I’m sure it will be met with the widespread approval by all our members and guests as the new face of the resort continues to take shape.”

Situated 30 minutes from Girona in the heart of the Costa Brava region, Empordà Golf Resort is set just five minutes from some of Spain’s finest beaches and historic medieval villages.

The refurbishment of the clubhouse is the latest phase of a investment programme taking place at the resort this summer and autumn, which includes a major overhaul of its two championship courses – Empordà Links and Empordà Forest – its 86-room hotel and array of lifestyle facilities.

Work being undertaken includes the reconstruction of all bunkers using the Better Billy Bunker method, a comprehensive tree clearance programme and purchase of new greenkeeping equipment to improve the all-round condition of tees, fairways and greens.

Off the course, the resort’s hotel – which reopened at the start of July – has been completely renovated, with its choice of  86 bedrooms and suites, communal areas and restaurant all being redesigned and given a new sleek interior design concept.
