Laytown and Bettystown and County Louth welcome new professionals
Laytown & Bettystown and County Louth have many things in common and those links will be strengthened when Scott Kirkpatrick moves across the Boyne to become head professional at Baltray next week.
Kirkpatrick will have big shoes to fill as he takes over from the great Paddy McGuirk but that will be nothing new for him having already brilliantly replaced the legendary RJ Browne, who was Laytown and Bettystown’s head professional for more than 40 years.
Kirkpatrick was a popular head professional during his six-year tenure at Laytown and Bettystown where he continued the great work that Bobby had been doing with the club’s junior boys and girls for decades.
In recognition of Scott's contribution to Laytown and Bettystown, a special golf day was organised on Monday last (Dec 27th) followed by a small presentation ceremony.
The members of Laytown & Bettystown Golf Club wished Scott and his team, Cian Geraghty, Philip Duff and Conor Nolan, well in their new positions at County Louth.
Laytown and Bettystown has now appointed Beaverstown’s PGA professional Gavin Byrne as Kirkpatrick’s replacement from Saturday, January 1.
Byrne started his golf career at Mannan Castle Golf Club and became a low amateur reaching scratch at 17 before turning professional in 2009, serving under renowned PGA professionals Maurice Cassidy and Brian Kerley.
Gavin qualified in 2013 and at 26, he became the youngest Head PGA Professional in the UK and Ireland when he assumed the role at Farnham Estate Golf Club. After two years, he was promoted to Director of Golf at the resort.
While there Gavin also serviced other golf clubs in the area and launched junior and lady coaching programmes in Clones, Belturbet and Ashfield golf clubs, respectively.
In 2017 Gavin became Head Professional at Beaverstown Golf Club and helped the club become one of the busiest and friendliest members clubs in north county Dublin.
