Maguire and Meadow miss cut in Los Angeles

Leona Maguire and Stephanie Meadow struggled on the greens and missed the cut in the Hegel-Air Premia LA Open.
Maguire was well placed after opening with a two-under 69 at Wilshire Country Club but she failed to make a birdie in the second round, taking 36 putts as he followed a double-bogey at the par-four sixth with three bogeys in a row from the 15th and signed for a five-over 76 to miss the two-over-par cut by one stroke.
It was also a tough day for Meadow, who had 34 putts in a 76 to miss out by five shots on seven-over.
After opening with a 74, she got back onto the red with birdies at the first, second and fourth but then ran up six bogeys and a double-bogey to miss her second cut of the season.
Jessica Korda added a six-under 65 to her opening 64 to lead by three strokes on 13-under-par from Jin Young Ko.
“I mean, you're just plotting your way around the golf course and trying to be smart where we keep it,” said Korda, who set the 36-hole scoring record, the eighth time she has held or shared the 36-hole lead.
“I got above the hole on a couple of holes and they're not easy putts, so you can definitely get out of position really easily out here, so we've been pretty smart. My caddie Kyle and I are just trying to plot our way around, be maybe sometimes boring but play smart.”
Although an unfortunate bogey on hole 17 prevented Ko from having a bogey-free round, the 7-time LPGA Tour champion actually found it acceptable given her two mishits into the rough followed by hazard.
“I had a really great bogey, I think. When I was putting the ball, it was moving so I thought it's going to be a penalty so I was a little disappointed. I checked with rules after 18 and she then said, ‘No, you don't need to take penalty so you're fine,’” said Ko whose mind was relieved that she carded anything but a double bogey.
“My mind was like, ‘Oh, my God, if a penalty I got double.’ But she said ‘no, you don't need to take,’ so, okay, good bogey.”
Two players are tied for fourth at eight-under, 2020 VOA Classic champion and American Angela Stanford and Canadian nine-time LPGA Tour winner Brooke H. Henderson.
