Olivia Mehaffey signs with Dublin-based Sigmoid Sports
Olivia Mehaffey is set to make her professional debut at the Symetra Tour’s Mission Inn Resort and Club Championship in Orlando tomorrow.
The 23-year-old today announced she’s signed with Dublin-based sports management company Sigmoid Sports, which was co-founded by Rob Browne and high-performance coach, David Kearney.
Sigmoid Sports offers a different approach to sports management where a particular emphasis is placed on the performance of their clients as well as providing the usual tasks a management company undertakes such as athlete representation and commercial management.
“I am delighted to sign with Sigmoid Sports,” Mehaffey said. “I really like their vision of having athlete performance as their number one priority. It’s an exciting opportunity for me to work with a young, ambitious company that is striving to create something a bit different.“
Olivia has signed sponsorship deals with Phoenix, Arizona based diversified industrial company, Carlisle Companies as well as New York-headquartered entertainment venue, Five Iron Golf.
Olivia made it clear that a connection to home was a necessity when it came to her sponsors. As she begins her professional career, she is also proud to be representing Dublin and Belfast based IT recruitment experts, Realtime and the world-renowned Ulster Carpets, whose headquarters are less than 10 miles from her family home in Northern Ireland - a rather mature decision for a 23-year-old. Completing the lineup is Belfast based, Aktivora.
Chris Koch, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Carlisle Companies said: "We are very pleased to welcome Olivia, a recent Arizona State University graduate here in Phoenix, as the second women’s professional golfer sponsored by Carlisle.
“Today’s announcement builds on our existing commitment to female athletes who are demonstrating excellence and leadership in sports and beyond. Olivia embodies Carlisle’s culture of integrity and continuous improvement, all the while serving as a role model for young women. We are excited to watch Olivia’s career develop as she makes the jump from amateur golf to her professional career.”
Nick Coburn, Managing Director of Ulster Carpets, commented: “Olivia has shown real dedication in building a successful amateur career and has become such a positive ambassador for Irish golf. As she moves onto the professional stage, we are delighted to become one of her sponsors and to support Olivia in her ambitions of inspiring more girls to take up golf and to attract more women to sport.”
Declan McNiff, Managing Director of Realtime, said: “We are delighted to support Olivia. There is great synergy between Olivia’s passion to improve female participation in golf, and Realtime’s passion to get more females involved at all levels in tech. My brother Niall and I both love golf, so the fact that we can support Olivia, a fellow County Down golfer on her journey on the world stage just adds to the magic.”
Mehaffey intends to play tournaments in both the US. and in Europe through sponsor invites until she heads to Qualifying School in August with the aim of gaining full status on the LPGA Tour.
