Hurley in contention in weather-delayed Alps Tour event
West Waterford's Gary Hurley (29) carded a second successive 68 to go into the final round of the fog-delayed Winter Series Terre dei Consoli tied for second on eight-under-par.
The former Walker Cup player is three shots behind French amateur Martin Couvra (19), who made eight birdies in a 65 to lead on 11-under par with 60 players yet to complete their second rounds.
"Even if it was a long day, I've been playing very well," Hurley said after playing 22 holes yesterday. "I've had two great days of golf in a row, which is awesome. Let's hope for another one tomorrow."
Hurley lies in a six-way tie for second with Portmarmock’s Conor Purcell tied 23rd on four-under, two-under for the day, with four holes of his second round to play.
Castleknock’s David Carey is tied 30th on three-under after a 69 with the cut projected to fall on one-under.
The Island’s Paul McBride and Naas’ Jonathan Yates resume on level par, a shot outside the projected cut mark, with five holes of their second rounds remaining with Kilkenny’s Luke Donnelly a shot further back after 11 holes.
Kerry’s Michael Young is four-over but with 15 holes still to play while Delgany’s Simon Bryan is eight-over with 12 holes remaining.
