Closing eagle puts Purcell in the frame at Fancourt; Keeling tied third in Portuguese Amateur

Portmarnock’s Conor Purcell made a 60-foot bomb for eagle on the 18th to go into the weekend just three shots off the lead in the Sunshine Tour co-sanctioned Dimension Data Pro-Am at Fancourt.

The Dubliner (25) fired a six-under 66 on the Montagu Course to share fifth behind Swede Adam Blommé and South Africa’s Luke Jerling on nine-under-par.

“I’m managing my game well at the moment,” Purcell said. “Nothing crazy just making the most of chances when I have them and minimising mistakes. It was nice to drain a 60-footer on the last for eagle to finish the day off.”

Rosapenna’s Ruaidhri McGee joint 23rd on five-under following a one-over 73 on the Outeniqua layout.

Jerling and Blommé both birdied their final holes to claim a share of the lead.

South African Jerling posted a five under par round of 68 at The Links to set the target at 12 under before Blommé posted a five under 67 on the Montagu course to join him at the top of the leaderboard.

The duo lead by two strokes from South African duo Adam Breen and Oliver Bekker, who share third on ten-under-par.

McDowell digs deep in Oman

In the  Asian Tour’s International Series Oman, Graeme McDowell was tied 18th on one-over, five shots behind Japan’s Takumi Kanaya, after carding a level par 72 in windy conditions at Al Mouj Golf.

Keeling tied third in the Portuguese International Amateur

In amateur golf, Roganstown’s Séan Keeling shot a third successive 69 to go into the final round tied for third in the Portuguese International Amateur Championship at Montado Golf Resort.

He’s six strokes behind Spain’s Ángel Ayora Fanegas on nine-under par with Jack Murphy the next best of the Irish in 18th place on two-under after a 73.

Ryan Griffin and Simon Walker missed the two-over par cut by a shot while Liam Nolan and Keith Egan (nine-over), Eoin Murphy and David Kitt (10-over) and Dean O’Riordan (13-over) also missed out.
