Killian McGinley followed in the footsteps of his father Paul and mother Allison when he captured an NCAA Division One title in the US on Monday.

The 21-year-old son of the 2014 Ryder Cup captain, whose mother was also a professional golfer, shot rounds of 66 and 70 for Fairfield University to win the ABARTA Coca-Cola Collegiate Invitational at Northampton Country Club in Easton, Pennsylvania.

A three-time winner of the Gerald Micklem Trophy as a junior in the UK, McGinley is a senior at Fairfield University in Connecticut.

He finished four shots clear of the field on eight-under-par and will graduate next month with a degree in economics.

As a result of the COVID 19 pandemic, he has an extra year of eligibility to play Division 1 golf and has just been admitted to the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB) to do his post graduate degree in economics, starting in August.

Killian’s father Paul, a three-time Ryder Cup player, and his mother Allison, a former Ladies European Tour player, both won Division 1 titles in US college golf.
