Ireland in Sotogrande; Sean Keeling in Wales; O'Driscoll in Troon; Walsh in Lee Valley
England won the men’s event and Spain the women’s as Ireland endured a difficult week at the European Nations Cup at Real Club de Golf Sotogrande in Spain.
Albert Hansson beat John Gough in a playoff to win the men’s title after they finished on two-under 286 with Matt McClean the best of the Irish, tied 27th in the 74-man field on 12-over 300 after rounds of 71, 73, 76 and 80.
Ballymena’s Josh Hill (79, 70, 75, 77) was just a shot behind McClean, tied 31st on 13-over with Douglas’ Peter O’Keeffe (78, 76, 81, 79) tied 55th on 26-over 314 and Castle’s Robert Moran (79 80, 79, 78) tied 58th on 28-over,
England won the team title by three strokes from Italy on eight-over 872 with Ireland 13th of the 17 nations on 47-over par.
In the women’s event, Spain won by 11 strokes from Finland with Ireland last of the 11 nations as Spain’s Rocio Tejedo won the individual title after a playoff.
Aideen Walsh (81, 81, 75, 79) was tied 28th on 28-over with Emma Fleming (76, 83. 79, 79) tied 30th and Katie Poots (78, 79, 83, 86) joint 35th.
Keeling in contention in Wales
Roganstown’s Sean Keeling continued his amazing run of form at the Welsh Men's Open Strokeplay when he fired a third-round 69 to go into the final round tied for second at Southerndown.
He’s tied with Timothy Harry on three-over, three shots behind England’s Robert Holden.
Keeling won the recent Scottish Boys title for his fourth win in his last seven starts.
Walsh leads at Lee Valley
