Mehaffey two behind but upbeat after second round 71 in German Masters
Olivia Mehaffey was looking on the bright side despite falling two strokes behind Sweden’s Johanna Gustavsson at halfway in the Amundi German Masters.
The Banbridge star followed her opening 64 with a one-under 71 to share third place on nine-under as Gustavsson shot 67 to lead by a stroke from the Czech Republic’s Kristyna Napoleaova.
“It’s always tough when you shoot a really low score and your expectations go up a little bit and you have to manage that,” said Mehaffey, who is bidding to become the first Irish woman to win on the LET. “Rounds like yesterday don’t happen that often when everything goes your way so you have to handle getting a bad lie in the bunker and things not going well all the time, but I think I did that well today.”
In the Kaskáda Golf Challenge, Stuart Grehan was the lone Irishman to make the cut after carding a three-under 68 to share 14th on four-under at halfway, seven shots behind Spain’s Borja Virto.
In amateur golf, Beth Coulter reached the last eight of the Women’s Amateur Championship at Prince’s overcoming Cyprus’ Lucy Lin at the first extra hole and France’s Justine Fournand by two holes to set up a clash with Sweden’s Edin Pudas Remler.
