It's Carton House or Lisburn for AIG Barton Shield as Roscommon face Malone in Women's Foursomes decider

The All-Ireland finals of the AIG Women’s Senior Foursomes and the AIG Men's Barton Shield will be decided tomorrow after an action-packed day at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club.   

Roscommon will face Malone in the All-Ireland final of the AIG Women’s Senior Foursomes while Carton House will play Lisburn in the AIG Men’s Barton Shield final tomorrow morning.   

Scoring

Sheila Fallon, the Roscommon team captain is looking forward to tomorrow’s final and hopes that her team can claim their first All-Ireland Senior Foursomes pennant for the club.  

The team had a great win over Belvoir Park in the morning winning their matches 2.5-0.5. The afternoon matches against Douglas came down to their second match which headed down the 19th. Maeve Kelly and Leah Lennon made a great par save on the first tie hole to put Roscommon through to the All-Ireland final.   

“Absolutely delighted and for the four ladies that actually won on the 18th and up on the 19th, they deserved it so much and we’re thrilled for them,” said Fallon.   

“We got to an All-Ireland final before, but we were beaten in the final. We haven't won it so we’re hoping this is our year.”  

On the other side of the draw, Malone met Co. Louth in their quarter final match which ended with a 2.5-0.5 win. The evening provided tight matches between Malone and Castletroy with Louise Coffey and Karen Greene clinching a crucial point for their team on the 19th hole having come back from being two down. Sara O’Sullivan and Julia McAreavey won on the 18th to give Malone the final point they needed to get through to tomorrow’s All-Ireland final.   

In the AIG Men’s Barton Shield, Carton House was the first team through to tomorrow’s final. They overcame Fota Island in the morning with their two matches combining to win by seven holes. Keith Egan & David Shiel along with Marc Boucher & Paul O’Hanlon both won their matches 4up against Galway to send them through to the All-Ireland final.   

Lisburn will face Carton House in tomorrow’s final after two great wins today. They beat Castleknock by four holes in their morning matches which was comprised of a half match followed by a 4up victory by Aaron Marshall and Ryan Symington.

The afternoon matches against Limerick were tight which saw each side win a match 1up which resulted in their final match going down the 19th due to a tie. Aaron Marshall and Ryan Symington once again provided a great win for their team with a par on the last to win the hole over Limerick and progress their team through to the final.   

Lisburn team captain, Norman McNellis is looking forward to tomorrow as it will be Lisburn’s first senior team to make an All-Ireland final.  

“Were elated. It’s our first time a senior team has made it to an All-Ireland, so expectations were high but maybe the reality is better. We played very well this morning obviously the matches this afternoon were much tighter, down tie holes. Everybody is ecstatic and looking forward to tomorrow.”
