Winter Golf Tournaments To Look Forward To
It is a common misconception that the golf calendar is only between February to September. So, are there any tournaments to look forward to after the 'normal' season is over? In our guide we will discuss the winter events which we can watch and bet on from the comfort of our own home in the cold, rainy months.
US PGA Tour 2025
The US PGA Tour is a series of events which will take place in 2025, lasting from the winter to the summer. There will be 39 events in total including 8 signature events which offer extra FedEx Cup points. In the months of January and February this will include:
The Sentry: 2nd to 5th January at The Plantation Course
The Sony Open: 9th January to 12th January at Waialae Country Club
The American Express: 16th January to 19th January at La Quinta, Nicklaus Tournament , PGA West Pete Dye Stadium courses
Farmers Insurance Open: 22nd January to 25th January at Torrey Pines North and South courses
Pebble Beach: 30th January to 2nd February at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Spyglass Hill Golf Course
The Phoenix Open: 6th February to 9th February at TPC Scottsdale
The Genesis Invitational: 13th February to 16th February at Riviera Country Club
The Mexico Open: 20th February to 23rd February at Vidanta Vallarta
The Cognizant Classic : 27th February to 2nd March at the PGA national Champion Course
There will be many more competitions lasting until August, building momentum towards to end of the tour, which will be the Tour Championship. The winner will be rewarded with a $25 million (€12.78 million) cash prize. In addition, the top 50 ranked golfers will be eligible to play in the 2026 USPGA season.
Presidents Cup
If you can't wait for the upcoming winter golf tournaments, the Presidents Cup is the perfect event to ease in to the competition. The Presidents Cup will be held between the 24th to the 29th September at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Quebec, Canada.
It is a dynamic and fast-paced biennial competition between the United States and International teams, which has been won by the US for the past nine events; the last time an International team won was in 2003 when the tournament ended in a notorious tie. There are a many different types of games such as four-balls, foursomes and singles.
Online Betting
As you can see, there are many different winter golf tournaments to bet on. As well as outright winner betting odds, bookmakers at Topbetting.ie list a plethora of other markets such as under/ over (e.g. total points), place finish (e.g. top 10 finish), nationality props (which nationality the title winner will be), and many more. If you prefer a thrill, you can also opt for in-play betting instead of pre-game betting.
Australian Open
On the other side of the world, The Australian Open will take place at Kingston Heath golf course and The Victoria golf course. Commencing on the 28th November, the competition will go on until the 1st December and even though this may not be a winter golf tournament for them, we still can't wait to tune in.
Often considered "the fifth major" of golf, the Australian Open is a part of the DP World Tour. The course has a 72-hole stroke play, and there is a cut after 36- holes.
In addition to Joaquin Niemann who won the event in 2023, confirmed players include Min Woo Lee, and Cameron Davis.
Hero World Challenge
The Hero World Challenge is a part of the US PGA Tour that will take place from the 5th December to the 8th December 2024. The competition will be held in the Albany Golf Course in the Bahamas and will be hosted by the talented golfer and imminent celebrity figure a Tiger Woods.
It is a much smaller tournament than those named above, consisting of only 20 elite players. It should be noted that this is not one of the eight significant PGA Tour events and so does not contribute to FedExCup points.
Conclusion
Ultimately, golf is too mesmerising of a game to confine to one season. There are plenty of exciting tournaments to look forward to during the grey winter months, which can also contribute to the performance in later tournaments due to the cut line halfway through. For many tournaments the points gradually accumulate, in order to crown one talented golfer the winner of a tour.
Be sure not to miss out on any of the golfing action, whether you are an avid watcher, or have the confidence to place a few potentially winning wagers.
