Power and Maguire seek seasonal grand finale

Seamus Power and Leona Maguire will be aiming to end their seasons on a high this week.

Power tees it up in the RSM Classic at Sea Island in Georgia, where he has finished fourth and fifth in his last two visits in the final PGA Tour start this year.

He must finish the season strongly as he’s 55th in the rankings with those ranked between 51st and 60th on Sunday claiming Signature Event starts in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and Genesis Invitational next year.

While he’s been hugely consistent, Power has had just one top-ten this year and he wants a big week.

“I still haven't had those high finishes, which has been a little disappointing,” he said last week. “Two goals for the fall was try to win an event and to lock up that Top 60. Getting in Pebble and LA will be huge.”

A third PGA Tour win would be a huge boost to world 118 Power, who needs to get back into the world’s top 50 to contend for a Ryder Cup cap.

Meanwhile, Maguire is looking for a big finish to a disappointing season in the LPGA’s season-ending $11 million CME Group Tour Championship at Tiburón in Florida.

The Cavan star made the 60-strong field in 59th place and will be looking to better her 2022 runner-up finish and take home $4 million, the biggest first prize in women’s golf.

Nelly Korda, who has already won the Player of the Year title, will be going for her eighth win of 2024.

The 2025 LPGA schedule was released last night and with no tournament opposite the KPMG Women’s Irish Open, some LPGA stars may play at Carton House from July 3-6 before travelling on to the Evian Championship in France.

Meanwhile, Gary Hurley began his 2025 season overnight in the Australian PGA at Royal Queensland.
