Walsh eyes fifth top-10 of LET season in Spain

Lauren Walsh fired herself into position to finish a stellar rookie season with another top-10 finish when she carded a five-under 67 in round three of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España presented by Oysho in Malaga.

The Carton House touring professional (24) opened with three straight birdies, picked up another shot at the seventh and followed a lone bogey at the eighth with birdies at the 15th and 17th to jump into a tie for 10th on eight-under-par.

The Kildare woman lies nine shots behind Spain's Carlota Ciganda, who shot a second successive 66 at Real Guadalhorce to lead by four shots from Belgium's Manon de Roey and Spain's Anna Revuelta on 17-under with a round to go.

Walsh, who joins Douglas' Sara Byrne at LPGA Q-Series Final Qualifying in Alabama next week, is going for her fifth top-10 of the season and she was impressive in round three as she missed just one fairway and only three greens in regulation.

Meanwhile, Peter Uihlein claimed a five-shot victory in the $2.5 million International Series Qatar at Doha Golf Club.

The American closed with a three-under-par 69 to win his second International Series title of the year on 16-under-par and move to the top of The International Series Rankings.

American John Catlin tied for 19th after a 71 to wrap up the Asian Tour Order of Merit title ahead of next week's $5 million PIF Saudi International powered by SoftBank Advisers.  

On the DP World Tour,  American Ryggs Johnston made five birdies in six holes en route to a four-under 68 that gave him a share of the lead heading into the final round of the ISPS HANDA Australian Open in Melbourne.

The Qualifying School graduate shares top spot with Australia's Lucas Herbert on 14-under-par after a rain-soaked day at Kingston Heath.

"It's been a long time since I've won a golf tournament," Riggs said. "I'll try to use it as much of a learning experience as I can, and hopefully, it works out my way. But if not, I want to stay in it for all 18 holes and give myself a chance."

Herbert led by four shots at halfway but made only one birdie in a level par 72.

"A little bit frustrating, but sort of no ground lost, really," Herbert said.

"I'm still in the lead, might just have let a few more people back in the tournament, but still leading, still where I want to be."

Defending champion Joaquin Niemann and last week's Australian PGA winner Elvis Smylie share third place on 12 under with Australian Jasper Stubbs, China's Wenyi Ding and Finland's Oliver Lindell.

In the Australian All Abilities Championship, South Korea's Simon Seungmin Lee shot a two-over 74 to record a comprehensive 14-shot win over world number one Kipp Popert of England and home favourite Wayne Perske on his G4D Tour debut.

Dundalk's Brendan Lawlor finished sixth on 20-over after an 82.

In the Women's Australian Open, Korea's Jiyai Shin carded a six-under 67 to lead home favourite Hannah Green by two strokes on 14-under heading into the final round.
