Lowry invests in edgy new golf brand Bold Golf
Shane Lowry has enjoyed a lucrative few years on the golf course and one of his investments includes Bold Golf, which describes itself as “a disruptive new brand at the intersection of golf, streetwear, and art…”
It was founded by brothers Jack and Robbie Pierse and their friends Jonathan O'Driscoll and Dervla Malone.
Jack is also the founder of e-commerce business Wayflyer - a logo Lowry sports on his more traditional golf wear.
“Growing up playing golf together, we’ve always shared a passion for the game,” explains Robbie. “However, when it came to fashion in the sport we’ve found it lacking. Major brands focus on performance wear, clothing that follows the traditional etiquette of the sport despite golf's changing trends and demographics. Bold was born from our desire to design clothing we actually want to wear.”
The brand has secured $1 million in funding, backed by Lowry, who is described as a Founding Investor.
Other investors include Jim Pallotta (Raptor Group), Bernard Heffernan, Dan Robertson (Golf Digest), Conor Ridge (Horizon Sports), Aidan Molloy, Elgner Group, Conor Killeen (Key Capital), William Frewen and Nick Mullen.
Lowry said: “The team at Bold are incredibly ambitious and have a really edgy, unique vision for the game. While it won’t be for everyone, for those who connect with it, this is going to be a truly special brand. Bold’s designs will speak to an entirely new generation of players.”
O’Driscoll is looking to tap into the young, hip market that turned to golf after COVID-19.
“Music and fashion celebrities like Snoop Dogg, Drake and Pharrell are all hitting the course, and this has made the sport relevant for a whole new generation,” he says.
The clothing is not the traditional stretchy stuff or conservative quarter-zips you’ll find in the local pro’s shop and it’s well worth a look. There are graphic t-shirts, old-school rugby jerseys, windbreakers and collared jackets.
For those with deeper pockets, the Italian leather Sunday bags and head covers would make the perfect Christmas gift for the golfer who has everything.
The bags are handmade and hand-painted by Penfold, an artist who has previously collaborated with Nike & Disney.
More collaborations will be announced in the coming weeks, the company says.
