Lahinch’s Aine Donegan has qualified for her second US Women’s Open in a row after winning her delayed qualifier in Texas.

The Ennis and LSU golfer followed a four-under 68 with a 67 at Rockwall G&AC to hold the clubhouse lead on nine-under-par overnight in the battle for two places in the US Women’s Open at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania from May 30 to June 2.

Donegan (22), who qualified for last year’s US Women’s Open at Pebble Beach and contended at the weekend before finishing tied for 45th, had a two-stroke clubhouse lead when played was suspended due to darkness on Monday evening.

But after an anxious wait following today’s resumption of play, she won by a shot from Taiwan’s Huai-Chien Hsu, who completed a second round 68 to grab the other qualifying spot on eight-under.

Donegan now joins the likes of Leona Maguire and world number one in the season’s second women’s major.
