Grange Golf Club, the 24-hole South Dublin course, has completed a very significant programme of investment and development as part of its golfing masterplan.

This includes the completion of renovations to 10 holes on its Love course, development of new practice and course maintenance facilities and achievement of significant sustainability goals in a programme of investment which has seen a total of €3.6m invested since 2018.

Situated in the foothills of the Dublin mountains, just 15 minutes from the city centre and with access to all major routes, Grange Golf Club, a James Braid course is home to Paul McGinley, Ryder Cup Captain.

Renovations are complete on 10 of the holes on our Love Course including a new putting green and short game area. Engagement with McGinley Golf Course Architecture & Design in 2016 to undertake a course-wide development program and master plan.

The club has invested €900K to date.

• Renovation of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th , 13th, 17th, and 18th golf holes

• Re-contoured and extended, 6th, par 3 green.

• Bunkering re-designed with SPORTSBOND® liner.

• Extensive work to protect the mature trees.

Other key developments include a €1.8m investment in a state of the art course maintenance facility.

In 2020 the members voted strongly in favour of approving the most significant single project in Grange for 20 years. The resulting NZEB rated building has provided our staff and machinery with a facility in keeping with our strategic vision.

Grange has also achieved GEO certification recognising its environmental programmes and culture of sustainability.

The Golf Environmental Organisation is a worldwide body that set best in class environmental standards for golf courses and golf events.

As part of its programme of investing in the course to make it the premier parkland golf course in Dublin, Grange has also made an investment of €900k in course machinery over recent years.

This will allow Grange to prepare our course to championship standards.

Grange consists of 24 holes in total, which provide members with two different 18-hole layouts.

This allows members to play two simultaneous 12-hole competitions in winter months as well as an additional six holes on any given competition day to ensure all players can use the facilities.

Visitors are welcomed to enjoy playing a mature woodland course with beautiful views and without any sense of being close to the city or suburbs.

Grange adjoins Marlay Park and is beside St. Enda’s Park, which provide wonderful natural boundaries.

Paul McGinley said: “My three core principles for Grange are to, project the legacy of the James Braid design, modernising it and making it safer. Enhancing the golf holes based on scorecard analysis, getting rid of obstacles only penalising medium/high handicappers, yet increasing the need for accuracy by improving the greens and surrounds.

“Most importantly, future-proofing the course for the next generations by re-developing the Sheahan and Love routings, bringing the bunkers up-to-date and providing a warmup area.”

Some Milestones in Grange Golf Club History

1910 - An enthusiastic group meet in the home of Rev. Mr. Henry Cave in Garville Avenue and decide to form a club. Land leased from Mr. Douglas Rowelly, then owner of Marlay Grange. Major Guinness elected President. Original 9 holes laid out by Tom Hood, Professional at Royal Dublin. 150 men and 90 ladies made up the early membership.

1926 - James Braid commences his commission at Grange Golf Club.

1946 - Bobby Locke and Morman Von Nida play famous exhibition at Grange with Club Pro Joe Carroll and Harry Bradshaw.

1950 - Irish Professional Championship played at Grange. Field included Harry Bradshaw, the winner and Fred Daly.

1970 - Irish Close Championship held at Grange, won by David Sheahan of the home club, to the delight of his fellow members.

2003 - New Clubhouse officially opened by Paul McGinley.

2005 - James Braid's family members visit Grange Golf Club

2016 – Engagement with Paul McGinley, McGinley Golf Course Architecture & Design, to carry out a course design modernisation programme.
