Taylor leads Irish challenge in Lough Erne

Former European champion, Alison Taylor (Malahide), is three shots off the lead after the opening round of the Irish Senior Women’s Amateur Open Championship at Lough Erne.

Spaniard, Natalia Martinez-Reboredo, leads the way on +2 after a brilliant 74 which included three birdies with two on the back nine to help her remain at the summit.

The Canadian duo of Terrill Samuel and Judith Kyrinis are joint-second after a couple of 76s, just ahead of Taylor who registered a 77 for a +5 total. Shirley Real (Castletroy) is one shot further in arrears alongside Lara Tennant (USA).

Reigning champion Suzanne Corcoran (Portumna) is T26 and has some ground to make up heading into the penultimate round tomorrow.

Holder, Alan Condren (Greystones), leads the way in the Irish Senior Men’s Close Amateur Championship after he was the only player to remain under par on the day.

Condren opened his account with an excellent round of 71, which included an eagle on the fourth and a crucial birdie on 17 to put some daylight at the top of the leaderboard.

Five players shot 74 for +2, with David Mulholland (Castlerock), Patrick Madigan (Tramore), Noel Crawford (Mourne), Alan Duffy (Royal Tara) and Karl Fitzsimons (Killeen) all T2.
