Recently crowned AIG Irish Amateur Close champion Thomas Abom will be bidding to de-throne Peter O’Keeffe in next week’s Pinergy Woodbrook Men’s Senior Scratch Cup.

The €3,000 event takes place on Sunday, 1 September, and there is no shortage of contenders for O’Keeffe’s title.

Thanks to a sponsorship agreement between Pinergy and Woodbrook Golf Club, both the men’s and women’s Woodbrook Scratch Cups will be played for an equal prize fund over the next three years.

Recent changes to the course have bedded in quickly, and it promises to pose a stern test from the championship tees at just over 7,000 yards.

Abom and O’Keeffe will be joined by the likes of Jake Whelan, this year’s Connacht Stroke Play champion and internationals Hugh Foley and Max Kennedy, who were members of the winning Irish team at the recent Men’s and Women’s Home Internationals.

The Scratch Cup will be played over 36 holes (shotgun start) with the field will be limited to 60 players with the lowest handicap indexes.

After their rounds, players will receive lunch and dinner. All spectators are welcome, and live scoring will be available.

The closing date for entries is Tuesday, 27 August 2024.
