Kennedy chasing PGA Tour spot in Florida
Max Kennedy needs two birdies in his last two holes to keep alive his hopes of qualifying for this week’s Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches.
The Royal Dublin talent, who is competing in his rookie season on the HotelPlanner Tour, was three under for his round in open qualifying for four spots in the field at the Tesoro Club’s Palmer Course in Port St Lucie.
Play was suspended with Kennedy two shots outside a five-way tie for third place, which means he has a chance of qualifying for this week’s $9.2m PGA Tour event at PGA National, where Shane Lowry is the betting favourite.
On the Alps Tour, Ronan Mullarney and Robert Moran were tied for 26th after opening with one-under 71s in the Red Sea Little Venice Open in Egypt.
They were four shots behind Italy’s Jacopo Vecchi Fossa and Wales’s David Boote at Sokhna’s A and B courses.
Marc Boucher was 50th after a 72 with Hugh Foley and John Murphy 81st after 74s in the second event of the season.
