Sharon Smurfit acquires digital and print golf publication Talk Golf Ireland

Sharon Smurfit

Sharon Smurfit, the former Director of Golf at The K Club, has acquired Talk Golf Ireland, a free golf newspaper offering quarterly print editions and monthly digital issues.

The publication is positioned as “a go-to resource for a broad spectrum of golfers including club amateurs, touring professionals golf clubs, corporate partners, and advertisers across the country.”

It will offer club news, course highlights and expert insights and will be distributed to clubs, golf venues and golf retail outlets around the country.

Sharon and the team at Talk Golf Ireland will continue to promote and grow the social media channels and impressive subscriber database.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the new venture she said: “I’m honoured to take over the reins of Talk Golf Ireland. This publication has a longstanding reputation in the Irish golfing community, and my goal is to advance that legacy by offering a powerful platform where local clubs can share their news, results, and key messages directly with their own communities—across digital, social, and print editions.

“We want to celebrate what makes Irish golf so special: the camaraderie, the tradition, and the incredible talent at every level of the game. My vision is to bring this publication back to its grassroots and to be even more connected with golf clubs nationwide.”

The next print edition, scheduled for release in early 2025, promises a blend of engaging articles, tournament recaps, and tips from leading professionals all delivered in a concise, reader-friendly format.

In addition, the brand will unveil a completely revamped website, providing a dynamic online hub for readers, clubs, and advertisers.

The goal is to amplify stories from grassroots clubs, highlight emerging local talent, and foster an environment in which knowledge and inspiration can be freely exchanged.

Her vision includes cultivating an inclusive, interconnected golf community where clubs of all sizes can spotlight their milestones which could include news such as open weeks, fundraisers, charity events, a record-breaking hole-in-one, or a weekend league victory.

Talk Golf Ireland will offer the digital tools, social media platforms, and print features needed to extend that message to a broader audience, reflecting Smurfit’s belief that local and club news is the heartbeat of the sport.

“This is a newspaper for everyone and is a great resource for clubs and I would strongly encourage them to avail of the various low-cost options we offer to help them to promote their club and share their news,” she said.

“We are offering unique advertising packages where advertisers can take advantage of an annual subscription for four issues of the printed publication and the digital magazine.”

Clubs can get involved by emailing all their member achievements and club news to info@talkgolfireland.com.

As Talk Golf Ireland moves forward under new ownership, readers can expect fresh ideas, more interactive content, news on the latest equipment and an unwavering dedication to showcasing the best of Irish golf.
