Power and Maguire well back as Detry and Noh seek Sunday victories

While he won by 12 shots on the Challenge Tour in 2016 and partnered Thomas Pieters to a three-shot win in the ISPS Handa Melbourne World Cup of Golf in 2018, he's entering uncharted territory at TPC Scottsdale today.

The Brussels native will be looking to put eight career runner-up finishes behind him, including two on the PGA TOUR.

"I think you'll think about it no matter what," Pieters said. "It's all about how you deal with those emotions. It's okay to think about it but then try to come back in the present.

"I think that will be the key for tomorrow. That's what meditation can help you with, like when your mind kind of spirals and goes into the future like that, forward thinking, and that's kind of where you need to be sharp and recognise that moment and going back into the present."

Europe's Ryder Cup leadership will be keeping a close eye on affairs at TPC Scottsdale, where Detry's six-under 65 on Saturday gave him a five-shot lead on 18-under from Denmark's Rasmus Hojgaard, Daniel Berger, Jordan Spieth and Michael Kim.

Spieth (31) hasn't won since he beat Patrick Cantlay in a playoff for the 2022 RBC Heritage, but he believes he might have a chance if he has a good front nine and can put Detry under pressure.

"I think trying to make up shots through nine holes is big, and then when you turn, everything changes Sunday on the back nine," Spieth said. "And this back nine in particular, you can go five-under on the back nine, especially even in the last six holes.

"He's going to have to be in that mindset of chasing a number, and everybody else is going to have to be in a mindset of trying to shoot as low as they can."

World number one Scottie Scheffler is eight shots behind Detry, tied for tenth on 10-under after a 68 while Seamus Power is four shots further back, 12 shots off the lead after 69.

On the LPGA Tour, Yealimi Noh birdied eight of the last 11 holes to card an eight-under 63 and take a one-stroke lead over three-time champion Jin Young Ko into the final round of the Founders Cup in Florida.

The American leads on 18-under par from Ko, with Leona Maguire 14 shots off the pace in a tie for 31st after a third-round 68 at Bradenton Country Club.

Meanwhile, Pádraig Harrington closed with a three-under 70 to finish tied for sixth in the PGA TOUR Champions' Trophy Hassan II in Morocco on Saturday.

The Dubliner (53) finished eight strokes behind Miguel Angel Jimenez (61), whose closing 69 gave him his 14th win on the US senior circuit by two shots from Steve Alker on 11-under.
