The winning Trinity team

Dublin University recently ended 36 years of pain at Portmarnock with victory over UCD in the annual Colours Match.

First played at Royal Dublin in 1938, it was Trinity’s first win since 1989 and it was an exciting affair as they came out on top 7.5 --4.5 at the north Dublin links.

Tom Flanagan, son of former Irish team captain Dr Kevin Flanagan of Co Sligo fame, was the non-playing captain for Trinity, who won the morning foursomes session 2.5-1.5 before winning the singles 5-3 to claim the spoils.

The key to Trinity’s victory came in match six in the afternoon when Mikey Mina Ronayne came from three down to beat Sean Murphy 1 up as Sam Gamell defeated John Cunningham 2&1 in match seven to secure overall victory.
