Walsh continues solid form in Cape Town

Lauren Walsh continued her strong start to the Ladies European Tour season at the Investec SA Women’s Open.
After notching her second top-five finish in last week’s Joburg Ladies Open, the Kildare talent opened with a three-under 69 to lie just four shots off the lead near Cape Town.
France’s Perrine Delacour and Germany’s Aline Krauter carded 65s at Erinvale Country & Golf Estate to lead by a shot from Namibia’s Bonita Bredenhann, Czech’s Sara Kouskova and France’s Lucie Malchirand.
Walsh was tied for 16th on three under with Annabel Wilson 32nd after a 70, Sara Byrne and Anna Foster 88th after 73s and Olivia Mehaffey at the back of the field following an 80.
On the HotelPlanner Tour, Max Kennedy and Mark Power made solid starts in the UAE Challenge at Al Zorah Golf & Yacht Club in Ajman.
They opened with five-under 67s to share ninth place, just three strokes behind Vince Van Veen of the Netherlands and South African JC Ritchie.
Van Veen and Ritchie led by a shot from England’s George Bloor and France’s Romain Wattel with Clandeboye’s Jonathan Caldwell 38th after a 69 as Dermot McElroy shot 74 and Daniel Mulligan a 75.
