The CityNorth Hotel will sponsor the East of Ireland Amateur Open Championship for the next three years.

This year's East will be played at County Louth's Baltray links from Saturday, 31 May to Monday, 2 June and Nigel Craughwell, General Manager of CityNorth Hotel, is delighted with the new deal.

"County Louth Golf Club has a strong reputation of being one of the finest links courses in the area and we look forward to forming a long standing partnership," he said.

The East of Ireland Championship has been played at County Louth since 1941, when the great Joe Carr lifted the inaugural trophy. He would go on to win the title on a further 11 occasions.

It has become one of the most coveted titles among amateur golfers with four rounds of stroke play putting the very best to the ultimate test.

Defending champion Paul Dunne from Greystones will be hoping to retain his hard earned title again this year.

Commenting on the new sponsorship, Paddy Nelson, captain of Co Louth, said: "The club and hotel share the same ethos of providing top class facilities and service to our patrons and we look forward to a long and fruitful partnership that will be beneficial to both."
