No extra tickets for Walker Cup
Walker Cup chiefs will not be laying on extra tickets to match Rory McIlroy fever in September.
Thousands of fans are set to descend on Royal Co Down for the clash with the USA.
But R&A spokesman David Hill says they will be sticking with their 8,000 a day limit, despite the huge interest in the Co Down ace.
Hill said: “Comfort is of paramount importance. There are only four matches at any one time in the foursomes and we have agreed that number with the fire officer, which is in line with the matches at Ganton in 2003.”
At least 600 fans are set to arrive from McIlroy’s home club Holywood.
But Walker Cup veteran Gary Wolstenholme warned: “It will be like D-Day. They will be coming up from the beaches to see Rory. The queues will be huge.”
