Harrington wins Shot and Golfer of the Year
Padraig Harrington’s sensational summer, where he successfully defended The Open Championship at Royal Birkdale before winning the US PGA Championship at Oakland Hills, is one of the many highlights of the 21st Edition of The European Tour Yearbook (RRP £30.00) which goes on sale today.
The stunning full colour publication has been an integral part of The European Tour for the past two decades and the 21st edition once again captures all the excitement and emotion of a momentous and historic year as well as celebrating the phenomenal growth of the Tour since 1988.
In addition to Harrington’s achievement, the 21st Edition of the Yearbook also highlights Trevor Immelman’s triumph in the Masters Tournament at Augusta National as well as Robert Karlsson’s momentous feat in becoming the first Swedish golfer to win The European Tour Order of Merit and The Harry Vardon Trophy.
Karlsson and Harrington were two of eight multiple winners on The 2008 European Tour International Schedule – joining Darren Clarke, Richard Finch, Miguel Angel Jiménez, Martin Kaymer, Graeme McDowell and Tiger Woods – and all their victories are chronicled within the 360 pages which feature entertaining essays by leading golf correspondents, their words lavishly illustrated by superb photography from Getty Images.
Also featured are chapters outlining a superb rookie season on the European Seniors Tour for Welshman Ian Woosnam, how England’s David Horsey set a new earnings record as he emerged as the Number One on the 2008 Challenge Tour Rankings, and how Padraig Harrington ended the season in style by claiming both The European Tour Golfer of the Year and Shot of the Year Awards.
Finally, looking ahead to the ground-breaking 2009 European Tour International Schedule, there is a chapter devoted to The European Tour’s partnership with Leisurecorp with particular focus on the crown jewels in that landmark agreement – The Race to Dubai; a restyled, season-long competition played in some 27 destinations across the globe, and culminating with the Number One to 60 players teeing-up in The Dubai World Championship on the Earth course at Jumeirah Golf Estates from November 19-22, 2009.
With this Official Publication you will have a wonderful addition to your golfing library, and we hope you and your friends will enjoy the many fascinating stories, highlighted by the superb achievements of Harrington, Immelman and Karlsson.
