Cash bonus for Peter Lawrie
By Brian Keogh
Peter Lawrie banked a massive €30,000 bonus from sponsors Arachas for winning the Spanish Open.
And his bank balance will go through the roof if he achieves all the goals he sealed in a envelope at the start of the year.
Insurance brokers Arachas will be forced to shell out again if he wins another tournament, earns Ryder Cup honours or finishes in the top 20 in the Order of Merit.
Lawrie revealed: “Brendan McDaid, my coach, has always been on to me about setting goals. It was something I hadn’t done before.
“This year I did and obviously winning a tournament was one - but there are plenty of others.”
Despite tournament earnings of €444,292 this season, Lawrie has resisted the temptation to treat himself.
He said: “I’m not a big spender, I don’t want the Aston Martin DV9 or whatever. My wife Philippa is not like that either. We’re not ostentatious people. We’re average Joe Soaps.”
