Los Lagartos under water. Picture via @ReeveWhitsonReeve Whitson and Richard O’Donovan will have to wait until Saturday to continue their bid for the Copa Juan Carlos Tailhade after torrential rain forced organisers to postpone the second round in Argentina.

The Irish pair lead by three strokes on three under par at Los Lagartos Country Club outside Buenos Aires and will return to the course at 8am today to resume their battle for the title.

Organisers hope to complete 72 holes by playing as many holes as possible on Saturday. Unfinished third rounds will then be completed on Sunday morning.

“We had 40 mm of rain which flood several parts of the course, especially bunkers and some fairways,” said Daniel Vizzolini, Tournament Director and Head of Rules and Championships for the Argentina Golf Association. “We knew this was in the forecast but fortunately, the weather is set to improve and we will complete 72 holes on Sunday.”

Whitson opened with a two under 69 as O’Donovan shot a 70 to give Ireland a three shot lead over New Zealand and Uruguay in the team standings. In the individual, Uruguay’s Juan Álvarez and New Zealand’s Joshua Munn lead on four under after 67s.
