McIlroy pops the question - Wozniacki says "YES!!!!"

Rory McIlroy has started 2014 in sensational fashion - by popping the question to girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki. The Danish tennis star confirmed she said "yes" and posted a picture of the rock on Twitter.

Happy New Year everyone! Rory and I started 2014 with a bang! ... I said YES!!!! 

McIlroy (24) also took to Twitter to announce the news:

Happy New Year everyone! I have a feeling it's going to be a great year!! My first victory of 2014 #shesaidyes!!

The happy couple are in Australia, where Wozniacki (23) is preparing for the build up to the Australian Open. 

The news will surely interest bookies who offered odds on McIlroy slipping a ring on Wozniacki's finger in 2013. 

Back in January, Ladbrokes' Hayley O’Connor said: “While he’s 8/1 to bag two majors the biggest news could be his potential engagement at 5/1. 2013 could be a massive year for the world number one!”

They were wrong about the majors and it looks as though they were wrong about the engagement - unless UK time was stipulated.
