Fog stops play at Portrush
Fog at Royal Portrush could cause more delays on Wednesday. Officials will make an inspection at 4.30amThick fog forced play to be suspended on the second day of the North of Ireland Amateur Open at Royal Portrush.
More than 100 players will return to the Dunluce and Valley links to complete their second rounds on Wednesday at 7am, but with little wind and more fog predicted to hit the area, a Saturday finish could be on the cards.
That is not a worry right now for Headfort’s Brian Casey, runner up in the recent Brabazon Trophy, after he added a four under 68 on the Dunluce to his opening 67 to lead in the clubhouse by two shots on seven under from Dermot McElroy, Irish Close champion Cormac Sharvin and Castlerock’s Aaron Kearney.
The cut for the matchplay stages could fall at four over par 146 which would be bad news for the likes of last year’s Irish Close and East of Ireland champion Chris Selfridge, (76 71) or last year’s runner up and 1997 champion Michael Sinclair (75 72).
