The Montgomerie Maxx Royal in Turkey

Ireland won the Turkish Airlines sponsored AGW Golf Writers' Home Internationals at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal in Turkey on Tuesday.

Having defeated Wales 3-0 in Monday's semifinals, the team of Gary Moran, Denis Kirwan, Ivan Morris, Paul Kelly, Liam Spratt and Brian Keogh saw off Scotland by the same scoreline in the decider.

Wales beat England to claim third in an event that helped Turkey showcase its golfing assets and Ryder Cup potential in the Mediterranean tourism enclave of Belek where there are thousands of luxury hotel rooms and 16 golf courses.

With backing from the Turkish government and Turkish Airlines Open (November 13-16) now a major part of the European Tour's Final Series , Turkey is rapidly establishing itself as a mecca for golf tourists.

With a playing season that runs from September to April and a string of quality courses and sumptuous golf resorts in the environs of the southern resort city of Antalya, Turkey will be a serious contender for the 2022 Ryder Cup.
